Islam, the national religion, puts great emphais on cleanliness and the Turkish Baths, known as"Hamams", have been part of Turkey's culture for centuries descended by the Ottomans. If you decideto visit any of these historic bath houses, you will step back in time and experience a wonderful sensuous ritual, quite different from a bubble bath or a quick shower at home. Whether you go to one of  the newer Turkish Bath in the bigger hotels or the traditional ones in town, the services to expectshould be the same. After entering the hamam and leaving your clothing in a locker, you proceed wrapped in a cloth towel to the "Göbekta?y". This is a hot steamy room with a large heated stone in themiddle. After hacing a good sweat, the attendant will call you over to the marble surface in te middle ofthe room and give you an invigorating massage with a rough exfoliating glove. After rinsing you off, the attendant will ease away your tensions by lathering you with moisturising olive oil soap, then giveyou a quick revitalising massage. You will leave with the wonderful feeling of renewed energy from theincrased blood circulation and elimination of all harmful toxin from your body. As a bonus, many of the old marble baths are very interesting arhitecturally. Traditionally, in town there are separate hamamsfor men and woman whilst in some of the newer hotels men and woman can bathe together.
